Wedding Photography - Frequently Asked Questions
English | Español
Choosing a wedding photographer for your special day can be a daunting task, especially if it is in a foreign country. I like to work in a manner that is 100% transparent to the client, with no hidden surprises. Sometimes people have a number of questions that they are too afraid to ask in person, over the phone or via email.
I hope by compiling this FAQ, it puts you at ease. If I have omitted any question you feel is important to you and your special day, please let me know and I will gladly consider adding it.
How do I find out about your availability and pricing for wedding photography ?
You can email, fill out the contact form on the contact me page or call via telephone or Skype to say hello, and request the respective information be sent to you. I will need the date and place of your wedding, and of course, your contact information.
It is very important to provide as much information about your wedding as possible, so I can have a comprehensive understanding of what you need for your event.
If you are happy and want to proceed with my wedding photography services, a non-refundable deposit will be required to secure your wedding date. Contact me to discuss Payment Policy and options available to you with no compromise. Alternatively, we can meet in person to discuss, or even have a video Skype chat.
Do you offer discounts?
I occasionally offer discounts, but these depend on a number of factors, my availability, travel schedule and/or season. So if you any budgetary concerns, feel free to contact me without compromise and we can discuss. Also, we can custom build a wedding photography package that best suits your budget and requirement.
How long before the wedding should we book you?
My work calendar varies considerably, so to avoid disappoint I would recommend booking me 6 months to 1 year in advance. However, occasionally I may be booked for wedding photography 1 month in advance. In a nutshell, we can summarise this in the phrase "the sooner, the better!".
I found you online. Should I contact you directly or tell my wedding planner to get in touch with you?
I would recommend you get in touch with me directly and enquire immediately. A delay may result in loss of availability. Besides, if you are confident you would like me as your wedding photographer, I can provide you with my availability of dates during a period of dates you are considering for your wedding.
Can you hold the date?
Unfortunately, I am unable to hold a date for your wedding without a prior retainer fee. As I am sure you can appreciate, I accept bookings on a first come/first served basis. So if you are considering booking me as your wedding photographer, please let me know at your earliest convenience.
What happens once we have booked you?
Once you have paid the deposit, your wedding date is then guaranteed in my diary and I will email you a "Wedding Photography Welcome Pack" which will acknowledge your payment of the deposit, the amount received, the date and what the next steps are. This of course will vary, depending on your event requirements and the service you have booked.
What equipment do you use?
Whilst the oven doesn´t make the chef, I am occasionally asked about the equipment I use. Which includes a heavy investment in the best Canon profesional cameras, Canon prime lenses, as well as a diverse range of lighting equipment and light modifiers designed to facilitate the most challenging environments. Because the quality of my work and that which I deliver to the client is of paramount importance. On any wedding day, I always work with two Canon cameras and back ups of everything piece of equipment I carry.
Will you give us the digital files?
I provide the client with a selection of edited, high quality, high resolution digital files, from which you can make unlimited prints and use them for non-commercial purposes. I do retain the copyright of the images and rights to use them in my portfolio, promotional purposes, competitions etc.
How many photos will we receive?
The number of photographs taken depends on coverage time, size of the wedding, size of venue, and a number of other factors. My goal is to deliver beautiful images that capture a story of your wedding day. For this reason, I will not provide you with all the image I take on your wedding day (and a lot of photos are taken!), rather only the images meeting my professional, technical and artistic standards. However, as a guide, for a full wedding day of 8 to 12 hours, you will receive at least 800 high-quality edited images.
How long does it take to get our photos?
Delivery time depends on my work and travel schedule, it may take from two to sixteen weeks. Once your photos are ready, you will be sent a link to your own private client gallery where you will be able to view, share and download the high-resolution files, and even buy prints on a diverse number of high quality materials such as, canvas, acryllic, wooden blocks, glycée, amongst others.
If you have included a printed album in your wedding photography collection, you can select the images you wish to add to the album from the private client gallery. Of course, delivery of the printed album and its case, will depend on how long you take to select the photos you want included.
Please note, no photos or album will be provided until the payment is liquidated in full.
Are you the only photographer?
When you book your wedding with Gareth Davies Photography, you can be 100% certain that it will be me, Gareth, shooting your wedding and nobody else that you see for the first time in your life. I don´t do double bookings or send other photographers cover weddings. If you feel you need more samples of my work, other than the weddings already featured on my web page, please feel free to contact me and allow me to show you full wedding galleries, so you can acquire a better idea of how I document an entire wedding day.
Do you cover wedding video too?
No I don´t. However, I can certainly make suggestions on videographers I have worked with and trust. If you are considering video for your wedding, please make this known when you contact me and we can discuss the available options together.
Do you travel for Destination Weddings?
I am English, but currently based in Mexico City and Playa del Carmen, but I am always more than happy to literally travel to any corner of the world to facilitate your wedding, as long as my schedule allows. Destination weddings are always a breath of fresh air for me and I thoroughly enjoy them! My wedding photography packages in Mexico currently include all my travel expenses. Outside of Mexico, the price of destination wedding photography includes wedding coverage fees plus my travel expenses, which are made known to the client from the very beginning. So if you are debating having a destination wedding, don´t hesitate to contact me and ask about my availability and pricing.
Do you offer Wedding Albums?
I do offer wedding albums, which are luxurious in style and come in a sleek presentation box. If you would like to know about the materials in the album, please contact me. During the album design process, you will be sent your album design for preview, which you can make adjustments to. Once you approve the layout, you can choose your album cover style, and colour style etc.
Do we need to provide you with a meal at the reception?
I would really appreciate it if you did, because at the end of the day which usually start early in the morning, I am usually as hungry as everyone else. For that reason, it would be nice to have something to eat, so that I get energy and keep on shooting. The meal does not have to be as your guest menu, as I comprehend you want to keep costs to a minimum. Many caterers offer "vendor meals" as an option. However, it is very important to inform the caterer or the venue providing the meals that I should be served as early as possible, so that I finish my meal before the guests and continue shooting.
My partners family don´t speak English, do you speak Spanish?
If your partner or their family is of latin heritage and you are concerned about the language barrier, it is not a problem. I am native English speaker, but also fluent in Spanish, so I can assist you in coordinating and communicating with family for any specific photographs.
Are you a legal business in Mexico?
Yes, I am a legally registered business in Mexico, I hope that provides you with further peace of mind.
